“Free range” animals technically have outdoor access, but it’s often just a small door to a limited yard — usually the same small patch of grass for their entire lives. In contrast, pasture-raised animals live on open pasture, moving across fresh grass where they can freely roam, forage, and graze as nature intended. The result is healthier animals, better nutrition, and superior taste — making pasture-raised the clear choice for quality and animal welfare.
Our chickens eat Eddie’s Feed exclusively — a certified GMO-free blend made right here in the Eastern Cape. They also enjoy plenty of fresh grasses, which make up about 10–15% of their diet, along with a healthy share of grasshoppers and other bug treats they find while foraging.

They’re incredibly versatile and cook in minutes.
The most popular methods:
• Pan-frying until golden and crispy (amazing meat-like texture)
• Sautéing with butter, garlic, or herbs
• Adding to stir-fries, pasta, eggs, or soups
They absorb flavour beautifully, so simple seasoning works best.

Microgreens are young, tender vegetable seedlings harvested just after the first leaves form. They deliver intense flavor, high nutrient density, and beautiful color, making them perfect for salads, sandwiches, bowls, smoothies, or garnishing meals.
When refrigerated and kept dry, Heartfield Farms microgreens typically last: 7–10 days for most varieties. Up to 14 days for sturdier greens (sunflower, pea shoots).
Our microgreens are grown indoors in a controlled, clean environment and never touch soil, insects, or outdoor contaminants. We recommend a quick rinse before eating, but many customers use them straight from the punnet.
We don’t use any chemical fertilizers or sprays. Our microgreens are grown using organic growing principles, even though they’re not certified organic (certification is costly in SA).
